# The story of Socials and all of us

A year ago, we built Socials, a network of WhatsApp communities for internationals moving to a new city. The idea was simply to connect them before they arrive so they don’t feel alone.

It honestly helped thousands of internationals, but what we kept seeing in every single group, the conversation always came back to one topic... Housing.

## Housing as an international is a bigger headache than most people realise

### The problem no one was solving

Michael was heading to Rotterdam for his Erasmus semester. He spent weeks on five different platforms, messaging landlords who never replied, almost paying a deposit for a place he’d never seen.

And we got it, because we’d been there ourselves. Moving to a new city and trying to find a home from a distance is super stressful.

### From communities to housing

We realised the WhatsApp groups were great for connecting people, but they weren’t solving the biggest problem. So we did something about it.

We partnered directly with trusted accommodation platforms. We built a system that scans thousands of listings, filters them and delivers the best matches straight to WhatsApp, the app internationals already have open all day.
